Spring Maintenance Tips for your HVAC Units

Spring Maintenance Tips for your HVAC Units

Spring is in the air!  In fact, Friday, March 20th is the official first day of spring.  In South Louisiana, the trees and flowers are already blooming, so summer is not far behind. It will soon be time to run the air conditioning unit in full blast. Is your HVAC system ready for spring and summer?

Prepare your home cooling system for spring with these helpful maintenance tips from the pros!

  • Change Your Filters

Do you know why this tip is number one? It’s because the filters have a major impact on the performance of your HVAC system. A clean filter can reduce your energy bill by up to 15% and prolong the life of your unit. How often should you replace the filters depends on the location of your home and the health conditions of the people who live in it.

Experts recommend changing or cleaning the filters at least every 1 to 3 months or as stated in the manufacturer’s manual.  Write the date on the side of the filter to help you remember the last time it was changed.

  • Clear Away Debris Around Your Exterior System

They may be located outside, but the exterior component of your system is as important as the indoor unit. Fall and winter may have caused an accumulation of leaves and loose vegetation that can hinder the proper performance of your outdoor unit. Some people love to plant bushes around the outside unit to conceal it, but it can cause your system to work harder.  Also, a technician may have difficulty in accessing the unit to work on it.

Spring is the best time for removing these obstructions to allow your condenser to breathe freely. Take time to clean the area and maintain at least two feet of clear space around the unit.

  • Schedule a Tune-Up
